Beauty and the Armor Peril in Space As a City Watches

RECREATION: New York's newest island, a man-made gift to the city Watch VideoReplacing a derelict pier on the Hudson River, Little Island is a new public space and performance venue constructed on top of concrete pilings shaped like tulips. Correspondent Martha Teichner talks with billionaire Barry Diller and his wife, fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg, about their $260 million present to New York City.

Because of the telekinetic shield, an Imperial ground invasion of Tizca had to take place. A huge force of landing vehicles and support craft descended on the city, whose defences had been left mostly unmanned. Establishing a beachhead in the city's spaceport, the Space Wolves began slaughtering thousands of Prosperines and burning everything in sight. Yet the Thousand Sons' rank-and-file did not share Magnus' acceptance of defeat and punishment, so they took up arms against the Imperial invaders. The Thousand Sons managed to hold Tizca (the only surviving city on the planet) for a period of time before they were eventually pushed back.

As they came out of hyperspace and approached the Naboo system, Skywalker sat in the cockpit with Olié and learned about the ship's controls while Queen Amidala held a meeting with the Jedi and her staff and announced her intentions to ally with the Gungans in order to drive the Trade Federation off Naboo. The group landed in the swamps of Naboo and sent Binks to the Gungan capital city of Otoh Gunga. When Binks finally returned, he explained that Otoh Gunga was empty, but he took the group to the Gungan Sacred Place, where the Gungans had no doubt fled after the Trade Federation invaded.[6]

Forewarned by the destruction of Rishi Station[76] and an intercepted transmission between Asajj Ventress and General Grievous, Skywalker and Kenobi traveled to Kamino to warn Shaak Ti and Prime Minister Lama Su of an upcoming Separatist attack, with Rex, Cody, Echo, Fives, and the rest of the 501st Legion in their company. Shortly, Grievous's fleet arrived and Skywalker led the Republic space forces, scoring several serious hits against the enemy. On the planet below, Tipoca City was attacked by Trident-class assault ship and AQ-series battle droids, prompting Kenobi to recall Skywalker to the city. Soon after returning, Skywalker engaged Ventress, who had stolen the prime DNA sample of the clones' template, Jango Fett. With the aid of clone trooper platoon, Skywalker recovered the sample from Ventress, but she, like Grievous, managed to escape yet again.[117]

Although Vader survived, he was horrifically scarred, both physically and mentally, and had damaged lungs due to the hot ash in the air. Shortly afterward, the Emperor (having sensed his apprentice's peril) arrived on Mustafar, where he found the severely wounded Vader and took him back to Coruscant, in a medical capsule. As the Emperor could not afford to lose Vader, he turned to the Republic's best scientists, among which was Cylo,[200] who in doing so, gained private access to Vader's cybernetics),[201] and by the Emperor's orders, Vader was put into a life-sustaining black suit of armor and outfitted with three new robotic limbs by numerous droids skilled in both cybernetic reconstruction and medical surgery.[202] Among the droids working on Vader was FX-6, an FX-9 surgical assistant who previously worked on General Grievous' armor.[203] After two days of nonstop labor, he was finally sealed within his new armor. His eyes showed a brief flicker of fear before his mask and helmet locked together and he drew his first breath.[202]

This may be too recent, but there's Secrets of the Wolf, by Saranne Dawson, published Dorchester 1998 "An artist and the ruler of a lost world find love despite the secrets conspiring to keep them apart. Beautiful Amanda Traynor was being followed. As she embarked on a mission to unearth the lost civilization of the Kassids, the flame-haired beauty was rescued from an attacker by a seductive stranger with ice-blue eyes. Somewhat older is Enchantment, by Kristen Hannah, published Fawcett 1992, 404 pages. "Emmaline Hatter was a beautiful, brillant, and rich Wall Street financier in the nineteenth century--until the crash of 1893 wiped her out completely. Without friends, family, or money, she decided to take a wild risk and joined Dr. Larence Digby in his search for the treasure-filled lost city of Cibola. Somehow, in a world of enchantment, each would have to learn to believe--to trust the other with their lives, their secrets, and their hearts."There's also The Takers: River of Gold, by Jerry Ahern, published Worldwide 1984, 387 pages. "Josh Culhane, two-fisted adventurer who'll go anywhere, do anything, teams up with the sexy scholar Mary Mulrooney. They battle halfway across the globe, into the Brazilian rain forest; far upriver, the jungle yields its deepest secret: the lost city of the Amazon warrior-women, to a last stand beneath the Antarctic ice cap, where they find an ancient starbase whose builders had never gotten home." Then there's The Sunbird, by Wilbur Smith, published Heinemann 1974, 500 pages "Like his ancestors before him Louren Sturvesant had spent money wisely. He had the financial muscle to fulfil the dreams of his friend Ben Kazin by funding an expedition to a lost city in the red cliffs of Botswanaland and the treasure it would contain. But it is a city haunted by an ancient evil let loose in the distant mists of pre-history. From the dramatic whirlpool of Africa today - big game hunts, terrorism and intrigue - the protagonists of The Sunbird are swept back in time through the battle, romance and tragedy of their pasts in the savage epoch of ancient Carthage." S112 searching for city: yet another possible, This Fierce Splendor by Iris Johansen, published Bantam 1988. "Scottish beauty Elspeth MacGregor travels to Hell's Bluff to hire Dominic Delaney to lead her to the magical lost city of Kantalan, but at first he refuses ... the last thing he needs is to join a virginal scholar on a dangerous quest. Through wonders and tragedy, across the untamed splendors of Arizona and Mexico, Elspeth and Dominic draw closer to their dual destiny: to experience the dark mysteries and magnificent riches of Kantalan ... and to fulfill the promise of lasting love and the birth of a bold family dynasty." 2ff7e9595c
